Vienna Wiesenthal Institute

The Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI) is Austria’s most significant historical archive and research centre for the study and commemoration of the Holocaust. It is named after Simon Wiesenthal (1908–2005), who was a Jewish-Austrian Holocaust survivor, accomplished Nazi hunter, writer and architect. His historic archive was donated to the neighbouring Jewish Community of Vienna (IKG) and can be seen on permanent display at the VWI. The institute’s activities reflect Wiesenthal’s own accomplishments in the research, documentation, and education of all issues relating to antisemitism, racism, the Holocaust, and genocide: including their origins and aftermath. VWI also presents scholarly lectures and conferences, and organises exhibitions and events for the general public. Its world-renown  research fellowship programme was attended for the first time by a visual artist, Dani Gal, in 2019 and organised in partnership with Blood Mountain Projects. vwi.ac.at
