Blood Mountain was an independent cross-disciplinary research and curatorial-organisation, founded by Jade Niklai and Tom Sloan in Budapest in 2010 and based in Vienna from 2015 to 2022. Passionate about artistic research, it explored the cultural past present and potential of Central Europe via the production and communication of critical new cultural content. Activities were inclusive and diverse, and included new art commissions, exhibition-making, artists-in-residence, research-based curatorial endeavours, education, public events and publications. The organisation thrived on transnational and interdisciplinary partnerships, fostered open dialogue with professional peers and welcomed the public’s engagement worldwide. Its agility and fierce independence as a non-profit cultural think tank was enabled by an unique international board of trustees and like-minded funders.
